FAQs

What types of clients does ROOT work with?

ROOT Therapeutic Services provides culturally grounded therapy for Black men, preteen boys, teens, and adults navigating challenges related to identity, emotional wellness, relationships, stress, life transitions, and personal growth.

Do you offer virtual therapy?

Yes. Virtual therapy sessions are available for clients located in Maryland through a secure HIPAA-compliant platform.

What can I expect during the first session?

The first session is an opportunity to get to know one another, discuss your goals, explore what brought you to therapy, and determine whether ROOT is the right fit for your needs. There is no pressure to share everything immediately — therapy is a process built over time.

How long are therapy sessions?

Most individual therapy sessions are approximately 50 minutes unless otherwise discussed.

Do you accept insurance?

ROOT is currently a private pay practice. Individual sessions are $200 for 50 minutes. Select insurance plans will be accepted in the future.

What if ROOT is not accepting new clients?

To ensure every client receives thoughtful, high-quality care and attention, ROOT intentionally maintains a limited client load.

If the practice is currently full, you may have the option to:

  • join the waiting list,

  • schedule a future consultation,

  • or receive trusted referral recommendations.

ROOT believes therapy should never feel rushed, overcrowded, or transactional, and maintaining healthy provider capacity helps protect the quality of care for every client served.

How does the waiting list work?

When all current therapy openings are filled, prospective clients may request to join the waiting list.

Openings are typically offered based on:

  • clinical fit,

  • scheduling availability,

  • and the order inquiries are received.

Submitting a consultation request or joining the waiting list does not guarantee services, but ROOT will do its best to communicate updates and availability as openings become available.

How quickly will I hear back after submitting an inquiry?

ROOT aims to respond to inquiries within 2–3 business days.

Please note that response times may vary depending on current client capacity and scheduling availability.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. Therapy sessions are confidential within the limits required by law and professional ethics. Additional details regarding confidentiality and privacy practices will be discussed during the intake process.

What should I do if I am experiencing a mental health crisis?

ROOT Therapeutic Services does not provide emergency or crisis services.

If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please:

  • call 911,

  • contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline,

  • or go to your nearest emergency room immediately.

How do I know if ROOT is the right fit for me?

ROOT was created to provide a grounded, culturally aware space specifically for Black men, preteen boys, teens, and adults seeking support through life’s challenges, emotional stress, identity development, relationships, personal growth, and mental wellness.

ROOT may be a strong fit for individuals looking for a therapist who understands the importance of culture, lived experiences, emotional safety, and honest conversation within the therapeutic process.

The consultation process helps determine whether the practice aligns with your goals, needs, and preferred therapy approach before moving forward together.
